Why Fluid Conductors are Essential

Designing your system with quality components and strong relationships

Fluid conductors describe the different types of conducting lines that interconnect components within a hydraulic system. They provide a leak-free transmission of high-pressure hydraulic fluid and are key to the performance of a system.

First, the fluid flows through a distribution network of pipes and fittings, carrying it from the reservoir through the operating components, then back to the reservoir. Power is transmitted throughout the hydraulic system using this network. Therefore, the network must be properly designed to ensure performance.

Designing to ensure performance

Hydraulic systems are designed to utilize principles for performing work using multiple components, such as motors activating pumps, etc. To ensure safe operation, safe maintenance, minimize unscheduled repairs and reduce downtime, it is important to understand all of the components, including fluid conductors.

The three types of materials used in a hydraulic system are steel pipe, steel tubing and flexible hose. Hydraulic hoses are used in applications where lines must be flexible. Pressure, fluid compatibility and environmental conditions are all things to consider when designing and connecting pipe, tubing and hose.

Finding quality through strong relationships

While some may purchase individual components to assemble into a system themselves, many choose a distributor to provide the system in whole or in part, which is why your working relationships are important.
Companies invest millions of dollars in equipment, and their profitability depends on uptime. If a machine in a plant or heavy equipment on a construction site goes down, it can cost the company hundreds to thousands of dollars per hour in lost productivity.

A safe hydraulic system design and component placement are crucial to the life of a hydraulic system. Proper design and selection are important because the system is only as good as the component. A successful manufacturer-distributor relationship helps companies to have quality parts, thereby decreasing the chances of shutdown.

Profitability depends on uptime. How a manufacturer handles hydraulic system components is essential. To learn more about designing hydraulic systems for performance and safety, download this blueprint on the “4 Considerations for Safe Hydraulic System Maintenance.”
