Instrumentation Fittings, Valves, and Accessories for the Medical and Life Science Industry

Written by Richard Tranquada | February 10, 2025

The life science market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.28% from 2024 to 2033 (BioSpace). As a result, critical  gas and fluid systems are essential to support medical device manufacturing and sustain this growth. In this blog, we’ll discuss key applications, essential products within those applications, and how Brennan contributes to the efficiency and safety of these life-saving technologies.

Key Applications

  • Medical Gas Delivery Systems: Medical gas systems in hospitals and clinics rely on leak-tight tubing and fittings to ensure the safe and precise delivery of oxygen, nitrogen, air,  other critical gases, and vacuum systems. Double ferrule tube fittings, valves, and regulators help prevent leaks, maintain consistent flow rates, and ensure the purity of the gases being administered to patients.

  • Biopharmaceutical and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing:
In pharmaceutical production, maintaining sterile and contamination-free environments is crucial. Ultra-high purity fittings and valves are used in the transport of ultrapure water (UPW), process gases, and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). These components support clean-in-place (CIP) and sterilization-in-place (SIP) systems, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

  • Laboratory and Research Instrumentation: Research facilities and laboratories rely on analytical instruments such as gas chromatographs (GC) and mass spectrometers (MS) to perform precise chemical analyses. Tube fittings, regulators, and hoses provide leak-free connections for carrier gases and reactive substances, improving measurement accuracy and instrument longevity.

  • Semiconductor and Microfluidics Applications: Microfluidic devices used in diagnostics and drug delivery systems require precision fluid control. Ultra-High purity valves are integral in these applications, ensuring accurate sample transport and mixing in lab-on-a-chip technologies.

  • Sterilization and Autoclave Systems: Medical equipment sterilization requires the controlled use of high-pressure steam and gases. High pressure cone and thread fittings and valves withstand the extreme conditions of autoclave systems, ensuring durable and safe operation.

How Brennan Supports the Medical and Life Science Industry

At Brennan, we understand the importance of quality, reliability, and safety within the medical and life science industries. Our products along with our processes are designed to meet the highest industry standards.

High Purity Standards: Our HTC Fittings and UCV Valves undergo an electropolishing  process. This removes a thin layer of material from the metal surface, resulting in a smoother, passivated finish which reduces surface roughness. This minimizes potential sites for particle entrapment and bacterial growth, which is crucial for maintaining purity in sensitive applications.

Advanced Corrosion Testing & Technical Cleanliness: We conduct accelerated corrsion tests on products in our advanced Salt Spray Testing Chamber which simulates real-world environments. Additionally, to ensure our products meet strict technical cleanliness standards, we conduct a layer of testing via The Lab, our ISO class 8 cleanroom.

High-Performance Stainless Steel: Our standard instrumentation offering includes ASTM A479 stainless steel tube fittings and adapters. For even higher performance, our premium line comes passivated as standard and features enhanced nickel and chromium levels. Both options provide excellent corrosion resistance, chemical compatibility, and the ability to maintain sterilization. *Brass and exotic alloys as well as oxygen cleaning are available upon request.

Specialty Engineered Products: We control the manufacturing process, offering a wide range of sizes, materials, platings, coatings, and custom design solutions, including full STEP files. Our ability to engineer and manufacture specialty products beyond our standard offerings allows us to design solutions tailored to our customer's specific needs and requirements.
